Unique Four-Season Signage For An Outdoor Botanical Garden

Client

Quebec’s municipality

Objective

A municipal park in the town of St-Georges is the host of an outdoor botanical garden that features over 200 species of lilacs and they needed signage to identify all of them.

Execution

The garden needed to feature each of its 200 different kinds of lilacs with individual signs that would carry both a photographic image of each species and descriptive text. As well, each sign must be attractive, easily read by garden visitors and be able to withstand the rigours of a Quebec winter.

BCH Unique created a stylish crystal clear Lucite® piece and embedded it with a life-like image of the lilac and its descriptive text. By embedding the photos and text within the acrylic and treating it to resist harmful UV rays it guaranteed the sign would remain air and water tight. Last but not least, the piece was combined with a long metal stake to allow the park owners to insert it firmly into the earth.

To add consistency and uniformity of the “look and feel” of the new signs, BCH created larger 12” x 18” Lucite® plaques which were placed at the entrance to the park and embedded with maps of walking paths which identified feature areas containing new flowers.

Conclusion

By utilising Lucite® and partnering it with metal, BCH was able to answer all the signage needs - long life, weather resistance, high quality, attractive appearance and strength - for the pleasure of the visitors.
